Senior Choir

The Senior Choir meets every Thursday in the School Auditorium for practices. The choir is trained by Mr. Sanjeev Jeyaratnam who runs the Revelations Academy. They are accompanied on the piano by Miss. Dharshi Edwards.

The choir participates in many events organized by various groups such as the Bible Society and the National Christian Council. The girls have also sung in a combined schools choir at the Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour, Bauddhaloka Mawatha with the choirs of Trinity College, Kandy and St. Anthony’s College, Katugastota in 2008. They also sang with Trinity College at the Festival of Choirs organized by the Ceylon Bible Society at the Trinity Chapel in Kandy last year, with then Choir Director Mr. Mahen Pieris, who trained the girls very efficiently.

The Choir launched its first CD in the year 2005. The girls have also gone caroling in the years 2008 and 2009, visiting many old girls of our school.

The choir leaders for this year(2012) are Keshia Kumaresan and Robesha Christy.

Thirtythree members of the Methodist College Choir participated at the 1st Vietnam International Choir Festival and Competition held in the picturesque city of Hoi-An, Vietnam. The competition, which concluded on the 19th of March 2011, was organized by Interkultur Germany.

The Methodist College Choir participated in the ‘Youth Choirs of equal voices’ category (which was 14 to 19 years) where they were adjudged the winner of the category in addition to being awarded a Golden Diploma. They also participated in the ‘Sacred Music’ category (which was an Open category) being awarded a Silver Diploma, narrowly missing out on the Golden Diploma by a margin of 0.5 marks.

They were invited to compete for the Hoi-An Trophy with 6 other choirs , which was held on the last day, for which they had to sing two A Capella pieces not previously performed at the competition.This is a competition amongst the best choirs participating in the competition and only 7 of the 12 category winners were invited to compete. They were also honoured by being invited to participate and showcase their talent at the grand closing ceremony with 2 other choirs, which was televised.

The Methodist College Choir was conducted by Sanjeev Jayaratnam, leader of the well known group ‘Revelations’, who has been training them since January 2010.
