We received excellent A’level results with 3a’s in all 3 streams, Bio-Science, Commerce and Arts. 8 students got z-scores of over 2.0. Two of our Arts students were ranked 4th and 12th in the Colombo district. Of course we are greatly perturbed by the confusion and discrepancies arising from the results and rankings and are unable to fully rejoice till it is cleared! We pray the lowering of standards and practices that we see in other spheres of society will not creep into the conducting of such vital public examinations, that determine the future of the students in our land.

Champions of Change!

It is a privilege to be asked by the Daily Mirror, about our school’s activities regarding our champion causes. Methodist College has had a very eventful year.

A few of our girls participated in the “Walk for Cancer” organized by the Cancer Society in March.

The Sri Lanka Unites(slu) movement represents our nation’s youth from all ethnic and religious groups, from across the country, and empowers them to rise up and provide a new voice. Our students have had the opportunity to work on a project where they voluntarily visited 3 different children’s orphanages of 3 different ethnic backgrounds, and taught them English and crafts and spent time with them, once a week, for 3 months, after school. Our lives have also been enriched by understanding all the social and other causes for their plight. They ended this year’s project by bringing together all these children of different ethnicities to our school on the 29th of October, to display their handiwork in an exhibition in the auditorium foyer, and for a time of interaction amongst these children through fun and games..

The school’s Sri Lanka Unites team linked up with Sangamitta Bhalika Vidyalaya Galle, where they too voluntarily visited 2 Children’s Homes in Galle and spent time.they had a special concert where the children performed, on Sunday, July 10th, to which a few of our girls also attended.in July a group of 20 girls and the Chaplain provided aid to help the young women in Odumadam, who were still recovering from the conflict and gifted them dry rations.

Now in December, we visit Vavuniya again where we will meet the children of these widows and gift them stationery packs for their schooling next year and hold a short time of fun and games.

We are determined to promote reconciliation and youth empowerment on the basis of “One Smile, One People, One Sri Lanka”
